Even if you have thoroughly read up on the subject, some people may still have doubts as to whether something can go “wrong” when taking Amanita muscaria and, if so, how to recognize it. That's why today we're going to explain in detail how you can recognize incorrect Amanita Muscaria microdosing!
The good news first
We can reassure you with a clear conscience and give you the all-clear: If you pay careful attention to the correct dosage, you basically can't go wrong! The recommended starting dose when starting with fly agaric microdosing is 0.3 grams per dose, taken twice a day. Both the well-known doctor Baba Masha, who led a multi-year study on fly agaric microdosing, and our own experience and that of our friends, relatives and customers, can confirm this: A total amount of 0.6 g of dried Amanita Muscaria consumed half in the morning and half in the evening is well to very well tolerated by the vast majority of microdosers. This is why the fly agaric was closely scrutinized by an investigation committee in the USA around two years ago and certified as GRAS. This means that it isclassified as “generally recognized as safe” for consumption.
I prefer to be extra careful
If it makes you feel better, just try this: If you are particularly slim or already know from experience that your body reacts very sensitively to new substances, it might make sense to start with 0.2 g per dose in exceptional cases.
However, even single doses of 0.3 g will not cause you any “damage”, no matter how delicate or sensitive you are. The only thing that could happen is that the usual reactions will be somewhat intensified. These include, for example, a certain euphoria, excessive zest for action and, very rarely, the feeling of being a little “high”. However, as the effect wears off after a few hours, even these extremely rare observations subside. The majority of users are convinced by the usual initial dose of 0.3 g and often stick to it in the long term.
Typical side effects of incorrect Amanita Muscaria microdosing
Side effects can occur with microdosing, particularly in the first few days and up to a duration of around three weeks. On closer inspection, however, these are almost always detoxification symptoms! These manifest themselves in headaches, nausea, diarrhea, acne and tiredness or fatigue. Only very rarely do these symptoms occur to such an extent that consumers stop taking toadstools. In such cases, it is therefore almost impossible to determine whether it was actually a side effect or a strong detoxification reaction because the body was under more than average stress.
Side effects are therefore not a sign of incorrect microdosing - they rather prove to you that the medicinal mushroom is starting to work.
This is again confirmed by Dr. Masha's study, which we also discuss in great detail in our book on Amanita Muscaria microdosing. You can read even more defined information about your reactions to taking it there.
I don't notice any effect - what am I doing wrong?
Although the fly agaric does not act like a narcotic anyway, where you can really feel whether and how it works, 0.3 g is not very much and may only trigger very subtle and therefore not really noticeable effects. For many men, for example, 0.3 grams is a little too little to benefit from the healing power of toadstools due to their higher weight. Nevertheless, they should also start with this dose in order to get a feel for the fly agaric and slowly approach its mode of action. Therefore:
Listen to your body
What is particularly interesting in connection with the question of dosage units and reactions is the statement made by many users: you learn very quickly to listen more to your body and your intuition. This puts you in a very good position to judge whether the amount you are currently consuming is optimal for you personally. If you have the feeling that 0.3 g is not having the desired effect on you, try 0.4 g, preferably in the evening. But please don't overdo it and skip several milligrams! You should approach this cautiously and always observe yourself closely for a few days to see how you react to the slight increase in your dose! This is where our sophisticated journal for Amanita Muscaria microdosing comes in handy.
Too much Amanita Muscaria- what now?
This is clearly the main cause of undesirable symptoms! There are plenty of reports on the Internet of people who have consumed 8, 15 or even more grams of fly agaric powder, and of course it didn't do them any harm. However, you should already be quite familiar with the mushroom and be able to accurately classify the reactions that it can trigger with such high consumption. In addition to an increased heart rate, it can primarily lead to changes in hearing, vision and ephoria.
However, an accidental overdose at this level can be virtually ruled out, so there is no need to worry here!
If you deliberately want to try a larger amount - after some time of experience with the mushroom, mind you - it is better not to do this alone and to stay in a comfortable place. More on this later in one of our next blog articles.
Conclusion
As long as you stick to the recommended approach to getting used to microdosing, you will most likely be fine. However, please also bear in mind that fly agaric is a natural product whose composition can always vary. In addition, everyone reacts differently and some people first have to get used to the effects of Amanita muscaria. So far, however, we have not met anyone who has not been convinced of the benefits of microdosing after just a few weeks or even days and confirms that they were worried for nothing about how to recognize incorrect Amanita Muscaria microdosing!
